How To Remove Negative Self Talk
How To Remove Negative Self Talk
“When you’re 20 you care what everyone thinks, when you’re 40 you stop caring what everyone thinks, when you’re 60 you realize no one was ever thinking about you in the first place.” - Winston Churchill
When it comes to success, our thoughts and beliefs do not always match up with reality. Our personal parameters can mean that we justify failures and go along with the status quo.
Many of us have the ‘I would if I could, but I can’t so I won’t” mentality and hold back from realizing our full potential.
But you have the power to change your mind, actions, and life.
Some questions we ask:
- What if you replaced ‘It won’t happen to me” with ‘It will happen to me’? (8:00)
- What if you rephrased ‘It is how it is’ with ‘Why is it this way and how can I change it?’ (12:00)
- What if you took the hour that you spend on Instagram and replaced it with that workout that you have been putting off? (15:00)
- Does it matter enough to make the time? (16:00)
In this episode, we discuss the 4 toxic phrases that you must banish from your vocabulary to see success in a new light:
1) What will other people say/think about me?
Winston Churchill said, “When you’re 20 you care what everyone thinks, when you’re 40 you stop caring what everyone thinks, when you’re 60 you realize no one was ever thinking about you in the first place.” Opinions are not facts, nothing really matters in the long-run and everyone lives their lives on their own terms.
2) It won’t happen for me / I can’t / I don’t even know where to start / how to start.
Les Brown said, “You don’t have to be great to get started but you have to get started to be great.” Stop over-analyzing because if you get started, progress on the right path is guaranteed. Beautiful things can happen when you ignore fearful predictions about the unknown. Take action and imagine the best possible outcome instead.
3) It is how it is and should be.
Patrick Murphy said “Curiosity is a superpower. Always ask why and you will change the world.” Everyone has their own timeline and there is no set formula that guarantees universal happiness. Don’t settle, find your passion, and deviate from set expectations.
4) I don’t have time.
Everyone has 24 hours in a day and varying priorities depending upon what they care deeply enough about. Why delay a project when you can make time to break it down into doable chunks?
Break out of your illusionary bubble, challenge these preconceived notions, and reach for the stars!
