“A person's success in life can usually be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations he or she is willing to have.” - Tim Ferriss

“If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”

Well, those days are over. Tim Ferriss says “A person’s success in life can usually be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations he or she is willing to have.”

People who embrace uncomfortable conversations as an opportunity to win can often convey their feelings respectfully with honesty and mutual understanding without suffering in silence.

We can all relate to times where we have let issues fester and blown up at an unsuspecting repeat offender. If you want to salvage a friendship or relationship and care about it deeply enough, a cringeworthy conversation at the onset  is often compulsory if you care deeply enough.

Promotion discussions that you have to initiate rank high on the list of life’s most anxiety-inducing activities. But if you don’t vouch for yourself and let your boss know that you’re ready for the next step, who will?

Next time you experience an uneasy elevator ride, keep in mind that it could be painless with a compliment or casual remark:)

“If you’re single and want to be with somebody, you’re going to have this uncomfortable conversation “Hey I like you. Can we be exclusive?”

Some questions we ask:

  1. How is our relationship unique compared to all the other relationships in the world? (1:00)
  2. Are you having uncomfortable situations to better your relationship for tomorrow? (4:00)
  3. It all comes down to intention. The intention is how do we fix this and get to a deeper level of friendship with more trust? (7:00)
  4. How do you handle the ‘birds and the bees’ conversation with your children? (8:00)
  5. Did you realize that salespeople make the most money because they have the most uncomfortable conversations? (14:00)

In this episode, we return to the roots of our podcast ‘Staying Uncomfortable’ and discuss uncomfortable conversations that you can master around your relationships, friendships, family and career.

Things just got awkward!
